The first Douglas Family Reunion was held in the Washington DC area the weekend of July 4, 2003

Jake and Dorothy had three boys, Bill, Bob, and John. Bob attended the reunion, Bill and John
were with us in spirit and memory. Like many family's, some family members have moved away
from the original home town. Family members came from Phoenix, Des Moines, Iowa City,
Mason City, Dixon, Omaha, and the local area. We are all living our busy lives with work,
family and social obligations wherever we are living. On this weekend many of us put aside
our normal busy obligations and gathered together here in Washington, DC area to see,
reacquaint and in some cases meet for the first time some of our family members. As Mary's
letter stated "We are not getting any younger". Our family ties, in many cases are the basis of
our morals and govern our daily actions in our community and with others. We got together to
strengthen that bond and I hope everyone had a good time, shared memories, laughed, and
we will plan to do it again in a couple of years. (Maybe in the mid-west.)
It included many of the descendants of Jake and Dorothy Douglas who lived in Mason
City, Iowa.
